Thanks for reading one of my free articles on performance measurement!
If you're a corporate planner, business analyst or facilitator of performance measurement, there's every chance you're currently struggling with any one of these challenges:
- getting staff to buy-in to measuring performance
- getting managers to value and support performance measurement
- figuring out how to find meaningful measures, especially for the seemingly immeasurable
- building skills in how to do performance measurement well (more than just how to arrange a balanced scorecard)
You're not alone: most people struggle with these too!
These are the same challenges that the majority of people in your situation face. They are the same challenges I've faced, over my 15 years specialising in performance measurement.
And this is what I give all my time to (well, not quite all of it!) - to show you how to make performance measurement easy, practical and people-friendly!
Let me save your time and effort - with practical tips from experience.
Maybe you and I will never talk, never meet, never work together. But that doesn't actually matter. You should still take this opportunity to collect performance measure tips, advice, case studies and more - for free - in my regular email newsletter, Measure Up.
Sure, most of my business does come from my subscribers, but the vast majority will never make contact with me. They use the information to help themselves get better at performancee measurement, and I don't mind one bit!
My bigger purpose is to help revolutionise the importance of performance measurement to organisations, to achieve goals faster, easier and more wisely. To eliminate wasted time, effort and resources, and make the difference we're truly trying to make for ourselves and the world.
One of my favourite quotes comes from a book by Dean R. Spitzer, Transforming Performance Measurement:
"What if I were to tell you that one of the most important keys to your organization's success can be found in a very unlikely place - a place many of you consider to be complicated, inaccessible, and perhaps even downright boring? What if I were to tell you that this key to success is already one of the most ubiquitous and impactful forces in your organization? It's there, waiting for you to tap into it.
This key to success is MEASUREMENT.
Measurement done right can transform your organiztion. It can not only show you where you are now, but can get you to wherever you want to go... measurement is fundamental to high performance, improvement, and, ultimately, success in business, or in any other area of human endeavour."
When I first read that, I thought "Wow!" It places measurement exactly at the level of importance it should have! If you don't feel inspired by this, if you don't believe that part of your role is to elevate performance measurement to this status in your organisation, there's little point to your reading any further on this page, or signing up for my ezine, Measure Up.
Measure Up is tailored just for people who lead their organisation to use performance measurement well.
In your role, you likely work with others to help them develop and use performance measures to help execute their strategy and to reach their goals. And many thousands of people have found the information just enough to make the difference they wanted in their organisation's performance measures. Like these:
"Hello Stacey, Our company is currently following a journey of transformation and I was so grateful when I came upon your amazing website! We do not have a formal performance measurement system in place yet, but all of your wonderful insight is really allowing me to start a process of 2 way dialogue with our managers about the KPA's which they could measure regarding their outlets and staff on the resort! Early days but a very exciting prospect indeed." Belinda, South Africa
"Stacey, I work for a non-profit electric utility in South Carolina, USA, and just wanted to say thanks for all the fine information you make available electronically... I'm an industrial engineer by training and supervise our company's small performance management consulting group. Your material is always straightforward, practical, and presented with a professional flair. I've incorporated much of it into what I do when helping folks improve their processes... You provide some of the most straightforward, understandable, and useful information for those of us in the practitioner ranks that I have seen anywhere." Dean Creed, Supervisor, Quality and Performance Support, Santee Cooper
"Stacey, I have used some of the information that you’re sending me in the ezine, and guess what - I have used the 202 KPI tips ebook to cascade KPI’s to all people reporting to me. Since then we are always above target in terms of production." Alert Thovhokale, South Africa
Measure Up is free, it's quick and easy to read, it's practical, and it comes with a free copy of my e-book, 202 Tips for Performance Measurement to get you started right away. You'll get this as soon as you confirm your subscription. And you're free to unsubscribe whenever you want, easily.
