Overview:
If you're planning to improve your performance measures in 2012, you might be thinking about training courses, implementing dashboard applications, modifying your planning process and templates, hiring a Balanced Scorecard or KPI consultant, or any other number of other strategies.
But beware: you might be chosing a strategy that could do more harm than good. For example:
--> If people don't understand the value of measurement, training them in how to do it will confuse and overwhelm them.
--> If people don't already have meaningful performance measures they value, setting up a dashboard will be a big let-down and a frustrating waste of money.
--> If people don't have the skills to use measures to improve performance, embedding a corporate-wide KPI framework will be seen as a threat.
The approaches you choose to improve performance measurement in your organisation depend on its current level of performance measurement maturity.
